A Video on Preventing Youth Homelessness, Rooted in Hope
At this year’s edition of the Dans la rue des jeunes fundraising event, presenting sponsors CN and Sun Life Quebec premiered a powerful video entitled Look With Your Heart.
In it, Dans la rue’s counsellors share their insights on the prevention-oriented support provided to young people to help them avoid long-term homelessness. With empathy and compassion, the video highlights the challenges and triumphs of youth whose courage, perseverance and resilience inspire admiration and hope.
Our services are currently in high demand as the needs the young people we help continue to grow and homelessness reaches critical levels.
As mentioned in the video by Robert Dumas, President and CEO of Sun Life Quebec, and a member of the Dans la rue Board of Directors, “20,000 visits per year means 20,000 opportunities to bring these youth back into the community and society.”
Laying the Groundwork for the Future
Dans la rue’s approach focuses on prevention, with dedicated efforts from our staff to help keep young people from becoming entrenched in street life.
Kristin McNulty, who’s in charge of the Dans la rue housing team, emphasized in the video that “we are here to help young people prepare for the next chapter.” The bonds that counsellors and volunteers build with youth are invaluable. They are always ready to listen, just as our founder, Pops, advocated.
Dans la rue is a safe space where young people feel welcome and free to be themselves, without judgment. This reprieve from the isolation felt on the streets is not only appreciated — it is essential for rebuilding self-confidence.
Helping Dans la rue means helping homeless and at-risk youth reclaim their dignity.
