Housing

Since December 2014, 17 permanent housing units have been available to 15 young people and two families.

This achievement was many years in the making – Pops long dreamed of it as a way of giving our youth a fresh start in life.

Community support is offered within the building to promote socialization and combat isolation.

Counsellors strive to ensure that this first housing experience is a positive one and to encourage youth to take advantage of the stability it provides to take concrete steps toward a better future, such as going back to school or finding a job.

Behind the July 1 Moving Day: Young People in Search of Stability

As Québec’s July 1 moving day approaches, Dans la rue is shining a light on a less visible reality: housing instability among vulnerable youth. More than just a roof over their heads, stable housing provides a sense of security, supports well-being, education and employment, and helps young people rebuild lasting connections. Discover how Dans la rue’s housing programs support youth on their journey toward independence, one step at a time.

Two new housing programs

Dans la rue and its partners offer two new programs for young people experiencing homelessness who are looking for an independent experience in private housing.

Dans la rue Housing

When youth who uses the Bunker and Day Centre feel ready to take the next step in their journey away from homelessness, they can find a stable living environment through Dans la rue housing.
