Interview with Sterling Downey

At the official launch of our new Van, we recorded a testimonial from Sterling Downey, a long-time friend of Dans la rue, who is currently a Montreal city councillor for the borough of Verdun. Sterling also sits on the Commission sur le développement social et la diversité montréalaise, where he deals with matters related to housing, assistance for people experiencing homelessness and the fight against poverty.

He has fond memories of the first time he met Pops, in the early days of Dans la rue, when the Van would stop and park near Foufounes électriques. Sterling was a teenager at the time, and he was struck by Pops’ approach of welcoming everyone without judgment.
