Homeless and at-risk youth are frequently forced to cope with significant physical and mental health problems including infectious diseases, frostbite, hypothermia, depression, schizophrenia, and anxiety disorders. Unfortunately, the youth are often isolated and they face many challenges when trying to access the services they need to help them overcome these conditions.
Dans la rue collaborates with the Clinique des jeunes de la rue of the CIUSS to offer to youth an access to a clinical nurse that provides services like evaluation of health assessment, treatment and elaboration of therapeutic plans.
She also plays a key role in orientation of interventions with other medical professionals and other community organizations.
The presence of youth counsellors and two psychologists who are particularly in tune with the mental health needs of this group plays a pivotal part in their development and ensures that youth are directed toward the proper channels.
The role of the psychologists is to support the front-line teams in reviewing and analyzing information, resolving conflicts and coming up with concrete plans for moving forward.
They also meet with youth to brainstorm about their situation, the challenges they are up against, their ambitions and the things they hope to achieve, in an effort to help them find effective solutions.
