Dans la rue on Y’a du monde à messe

Émilie Mandeville, a psychosocial counsellor and team leader at the Bunker, was invited to appear on the Télé-Quebec TV show Y’a du monde à messe, where she talked about her work with homeless youth and the vital importance of pets for people living on the street.

Visit to the apartment of Sassou

Sassou was waiting for me in the common room with Kris, one of the on-site counsellors. She seemed nervous about our visit, but I could also sense her enthusiasm and pride at being selected as the subject of this profile piece. She had been recommended to me by the counsellors as someone who kept her living space impeccably clean, who worked hard at school and who was the epitome of resilience.

Visit to the apartment of Tommy

With the housing shortage becoming even more acute during the pandemic, I wanted to see for myself the impact of a stable living situation on vulnerable youth and their ability to achieve their dreams. So I sat down with Tommy in his apartment at Dans la rue Housing. It was a true privilege to meet this bright, motivated young man.

A night on the new Van

A most touching human experience. When the new Van hit the road in early July, the Development and Communications team at Dans la rue was curious to see how its return to the streets of Montreal would turn out. So I contacted Alexandre Des Groseillers, the coordinator in charge of the Van’s operations and volunteers, and asked him if I could spend an evening on the Van.

“Dans la rue has helped me a lot, especially in terms of having people to talk to, people who were there to listen to me, support me, and guide me towards other projects, other futures, other opportunities. That’s why it’s important to make a donation. It is the donations that help young people like me get by and move forward.”
