Énergir has expanded its support for Dans la rue and youth in unstable living situations with a generous $10,000 donation, over and above its key partnership with the Van.
In keeping with its commitment to transformational philanthropy, Énergir makes a point of developing close collaborative ties with the charities it supports. The Quebec-based company worked hand in hand with Dans la rue over a five-year period to help launch the new renewable natural gas–powered Van in 2022. It is the first vehicle of its kind in Montreal and is helping us shrink our carbon footprint by 20%.
The Van, a precious place of respite for the youth
The Van’s custom-designed interior makes it possible to accommodate even more youth. The volunteer-operated vehicle makes four stops in the downtown, Centre-Sud, Plateau-Mont-Royal and Hochelaga-Maisonneuve neighbourhoods five nights a week, helping an average of 100 people on every run.
Volunteers are on board to hand out hot dogs, hot beverages and basic necessities. But even more important, they listen to youth without judging. It is thanks to these kind souls that Pops’ legacy can live on today, 35 years after he founded Dans la rue.
A first step in the process of helping youth get off the street for good
