Raising awareness about young girls and women experiencing homelessness
While at CIBL, Geneviève from the Coalition Jeunes+ participated in the radio program “Les Aurores Montréal” to raise awareness about the situation of young people experiencing homelessness, especially girls and women. Indeed, Geneviève points out that the situation of homeless girls and women is very different from the rest.
« For girls, there is not a lot of accommodation just for them. It is often mixed accommodation. It would be important to have more resources just dedicated to girls and women. » – Geneviève
Periods of homelessness for several youths from the DPJ
Also, like Geneviève, we at Dans la rue have observed that many young people leaving the DPJ will experience periods of homelessness. Better supporting these young people in acquiring the skills needed to lead an independent life would be a strategy to counter this phenomenon.
« I had no last resort financial assistance, the DPJ did not help me, did not prepare me for the transition to adult life that would have to be established. » – Geneviève
