As the weather starts to get colder, the youth who come to Dans la rue are arriving with more than their belongings in tow: they are also carrying sleepless nights, worries and challenges that are difficult to overcome without support. Yet deep down, they continue to dream of better days ahead. They also care about standing up for their rights, pursuing the activities they are passionate about, and exploring things that bring them joy.
For many, coming to Chez Pops marks the beginning of a new chapter. As they talk with the counsellors and take part in various programs, they choose hope again and again — they choose to keep moving forward.
Building bridges means helping them work toward a future on their own terms. It means offering a space where they are welcomed with respect, listened to without judgment and supported at their own pace. It means giving trust the time it needs to grow until the future feels possible again.
During mealtimes, in the music room and in the Housing complex or one of the many places at Dans la rue where they can connect with other people, they build relationships that help them regain their footing, express their inner thoughts and feelings, learn new things and be reminded that they’re not alone.
